Where exactly in Haiti is Canaan?

The Canaan orphanage is located about two hours from Port Au Prince, near Montrouis.  It is about a 10 minute walk from the ocean.  The closest city is St. Marc, if you were trying to find us on a map.

How can I send things to Canaan?

Sending things to Haiti is actually very difficult.  To send items via FedEx, the charges can exceed $75 for a 1-2 pound package.  This is quite expensive and most likely not the best route.  The best route is to send things to a freight company in Fort Lauderdale and have the items sent to Haiti.  Shipping items in this manner will cost $2 per pound from Fort Lauderdale to Haiti in addition to the shipping charges to Fort Lauderdale from the origin.  If you would like to send any items, please contact us so that we can make arrangements to pick them up.  We will hopefully be able to pick up packages a few times a month.  The best way to ship things will depend on what is being shipped.  Please contact us so that we can help decide an appropriate method.

In what ways can I help?

The most important way to help Canaan is to pray.  Please be in prayer for us, as well as Pastor Joel, Pastor Henri, Sister Gladys, and of course, the children.  If you would like to support us financially, you may contact Pastor Kenny Bailey at the House of Prayer who will be helping us out in this regard.  He can be contacted at (618) 445-2731.  You may also contact Barb Danheiser at (618) 345-6482.

What do you eat in Haiti?

Being a tropical island, Haiti is abundant in tropical fruits.  For breakfast we generally eat bananas and one of the following: eggs, cereal, biscuits, oatmeal, or bread.  For lunches and dinners we nearly always eat beans and rice (in some form) and chicken.  As far as drinks are concerned, we usually drink water but also have fresh mango or papaya juice occasionally.
